Excellent point Lynette! Aside from security, data storage is also about PRODUCTIVITY - a very important consideration for individuals who work at home.

Thank you for pointing that out!

Ah! And that's why you need to visit my blog more ;-)

Totally agreed! Archiving is a good thing to do but you should still always keep a backup of your archive and one copy may not always be good enough as pointed out in one of my posts over at Sparkplugging CEO.

I am also very gungho about not having to enter data twice or more times that's partially about synchronization but also about productivity. Hmm you spawned a blog post here.

Overall, you did a great job in your post Lexi

Good point @blogjunkie! And I'll definitely be talking about the Time Machine when I write about the different options for data security. Thanks!

just wanted to add that backup is extremely important when you send in your laptop for repair. your client and business data is on there and you don't want prying eyes poking around when your machine is being repaired. i formatted my MacBook the other day before sending it in for repair because I could restore it from my Time Machine backup www.apple.com/macosx/what-is-macosx/time-machine.html

It never occurred to me to consider the difference between a backup and an archive, but you are right. Older files should probably be archived rather than just backed up. The question is where? I'll be interested in see your answer to that.
