@Bakari - Congrats on the PDF guide. It can be daunting to complete a more massive piece of writing than we're used to. As you said, we should recognize both major and minor accomplishments. Sometimes, it feels like we're not moving at all, but if we stop and think, we'll see that we've actually gone a long way.

I’m basically starting out as a freelancer, though I’ve been writing for well over ten years. But a significant milestone for me is completing an 8,000-word, 56 page PDF guide to digital photography.

Up until writing the guide, I mostly produced short form articles. I feel that setting goals—even if they are not all achieved—is one of the key ways of reaching milestones. For some us, it’s important to set lots of goals in order to achieve a few.
So yes, this is another great post, Alexis. It’s so important to one’s growth to make minor and major accomplishments though one’s life.

Hey Chris! Haven't "seen" you in a long time. Glad you dropped by again. I can not imagine juggling a full-time job, a family, AND freelancing. You rock!

Very cool on the 20 years coming up. That's awesome.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you Lexi. I'm working on this thing slowly but surely between my full time job and the kids. It's definitely not easy, but I'll get there eventually though.

I am working on the whole balance thing as well and I've figured out that focusing only on things that need to get done and only doing certain things in a certain time frame help. But I'm naturally a very free flowing person so all that has to be flexible, to say the least.

Thanks for sharing your story though. I always like to hear from someone I can relate to, kids and all.

Yes, it's a scary thought - 20 years as a freelancer this time next year! I didn't really enjoy corporate life, so working for myself suits me perfectly.

At the end of June I celebrated 19 years of freelancing. But, like you, the anniversary came and went without my noticing.

When I first set out as a freelancer, I did PR projects - both for PR agencies and for my own clients. But for the past ten years, I've focused solely on copywriting.

I'll need to celebrate next June: my 20-year milestone!
